Bilbo asked him a “Wild Warg” riddle that he answered easily, but the following riddle of “Not Fair, Not Fair” lost him some of his advantage. They were lucky in that only a single “Wild Warg” was detected.īilbo was not so lucky. Nevertheless, Thalin, Ori, Thorin and Glóin scouted ahead.
Far away, Bilbo took advantage of the magic ring he had found to prepare for the riddles he was about to be asked: somehow this affected the dwarves who shivered and felt less courageous than before. Thorin’s group had found some cram, but otherwise there was little joy to be had. The dwarves found themselves on the shore of a large lake of the cavern: there was no way other than to travel around it. Failure to answer the riddles would allow Gollum to gradually weaken the Hobbit until he was too weak to resist. Bilbo had in fact been found: by Gollum, who would not let him escape until he answered a series of riddles. It was time to find and rescue Bilbo, still trapped somewhere inside the mountain.
